How Does the Real Estate Closing Process Work?

Closing is the last step in executing a real estate transaction. This process gets set during the negotiation phase and occurs two to four weeks after the offer on the property has been accepted. During the closing, the ownership of property is transferred from the seller to the buyer.

You will also be asked to sign numerous documents that play a part in the passing of home ownership. Each home, individual, and deal is different, with various documents to be included in each unique transaction.

Some of the documents that need to be reviewed and signed at closing include:

  • Closing disclosure statement
  • Truth in lending statement
  • Mortgage note
  • Deed of trust
  • Affidavits
  • Riders
  • Additional documents required based off your unique transaction

After the signing, the deal is complete!

Our team at Goosmann Law Firm, is ready to help you close the deal and finalize your transaction, so please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (855) 909-4442 for a consultation.

FAQ: Real Estate Closings

Question #1: Who needs to be at the closing?

A: The only person required to be at your closing is you, the buyer or seller. The buyer and seller will come to the closing at separate times to sign the required documents. So, the only people required to be in the room are you and our team, the closing agent.

Others can join you if you’d like, such as your spouse or significant other, a family member, friend, or real estate agent. However, keep in mind that confidential documents and negotiation details will be present in the closing. Don’t bring someone if you’d like to keep those private from that individual.

Question #2: Where do the closings take place?

A: The closing can be done at one of our convenient office locations. Give our law firm a call or contact us online to set up your real estate closing today!

Question #3: What should I bring to the closing?

A: Your closing agent will specify which documents and information you need to bring with you. In most cases, they will have all the information they need from your real estate agent and mortgage lender/bank.
