Marie focuses her practice on litigation, employment, cyber, business, health care, banking and finance. She is a loyal and relentless attorney both in and out of the courtroom. Marie has substantial litigation experience as a previous Assistant United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota in Pierre, South Dakota. Marie says, “Litigation is a game of strategy that appeals to my competitive instincts. While winning is the ultimate goal, cases are won and lost in pretrial preparation. Just like athletes must practice and prepare for games, pretrial work sets the stage for a successful outcome.”

Marie is a contingency planner. For any given situation she faces, Marie can generate multiple strategies to obtain a specific goal by anticipating and planning for a variety of obstacles. Problems, emergencies, and crises are simply obstacles to her; Marie has never met an obstacle she couldn't overcome or eliminate.

Marie helps companies through employment matters regarding HR consulting, discrimination defense claims, non-compete agreements, and hiring and firing guidance. Through Goosmann Law Firm’s Cyber Law Counsel, she helps companies protect their property, resources, clients and name against cybercrimes, particularly among businesses handling private consumer information such as banks, finance companies, credit card processors, or health care providers.

Marie helps both professionals and the public understand licensing obligations. Ethics and professional responsibility rules govern the standards of all licensed professionals, including attorneys, doctors, real estate agents, nurses, and others. Professionals may be disciplined for bad conduct such as mismanaging a case or mishandling a client’s financial resources, which could put a black mark on their record. Marie is an accomplished ethics attorney and can tackle any disciplinary or licensing board complaints that you may be facing. Her talent is evidenced by recent successful rulings from the Disciplinary Board of the South Dakota Bar Association and the South Dakota Real Estate Commission.

Marie's “Why”

Marie is a home improvement junkie. In her free time, Marie is likely to be found building a picket fence, tiling a backsplash, or landscaping a lawn. As a child, Marie enjoyed taking her mother’s vacuum cleaner apart and putting it back together again.
